Kroller Muller museum then back to Alphen

Quite a lot has happened over the last couple of days. Sunday dawned very wet and cold, in fact it was the coldest June day in 20 years. With a thoroughly wet tent and barely adequate sleeping bag, and the weather forecast predicting several more wet cold days I decided it was best to get back to my friends where I would have a warm dry bed. Hein offered to pick me up at 4pm and while I felt guilty accepting the alternatives in the remote-ish area I was in were few.
I packed my paniers and left them in the tent, put on my poncho and cycled in the rain the 8km through the wild forest and dune country of the Hoge Veluwe national park to the Kroller Muller museum. This museum was set up just before the war from a personal collection and includes 90 paintings by Van Gogh along with thousands of other paintings, drawings and sculptures. The museum is set in beautiful sculpture gardens and the gallery windows make the outdoors part of the gallery.
Last night after I got back to Alphen we went out to an Argentinian restaurant with most of Jenny and Hein’s family and had a riotous time eating tapas.
Today I had a very quite morning and this afternoon I revisited Leiden by train and although it was cold and a bit wet I had a nice afternoon. The pics are if Leiden and couldn’t be more representative of the Netherlands.
